Warm winter bourbon bbq sauce
½ large onion, chopped5 cloves garlic, chopped1 tablespoon olive oil2 cups ketchup1/3 cup red wine vinegar¼ cup Worcestershire sauce1 cup brown sugar, packed¼ cup mustard½ teaspoon crushed red pepper1/3 tablespoon kosher salt, or to taste¼ cup tomato puree1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce, or to tasteBourbon, to tasteCombine onion, garlic and olive oil in a large saucepan. Saute until onion and garlic are translucent, about 5 minutes. Add all remaining ingredients, bring to boil, then turn down mixture to a medium simmer. Simmer for 20 minutes. stirring constantly.Run through strainer if you want a smooth sauce.Makes about 4 cups.
