PITTSBURGH — Four Butler County high school students are among a group of 28 student athletes who received scholarships from the C. Harper Positive High School Athlete Awards.

The awards were given out Tuesday by former Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward.

The fifth annual awards ceremony recognized students from 28 high school sports programs. It was at the Senator John Heinz History Center and Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.

Among the winners were Peyton Moriarty from the girls’ golf team at Seneca Valley, Zack Inklovich from the boys’ lacrosse team at Knoch, Alex Gruber from the boys’ tennis team at Mars, and Carline Simms from the girls’ tennis team at Butler.

Each of the athletes received $500 from the Jeff Boynton Scholarship Fund. A total of $30,000 was awarded.

The winners were selected from among more than 1,000 nominations submitted by 150 high schools in Western Pennsylvania.

In addition to the individual awards, Seneca Valley High School was honored as the Most Positive High School in recognition of how the school has supported the program over the years and for the high number of quality nominations that came from Seneca Valley this year.
