Pam Palamidessi of Cumberland, Md., who created these painted eggs and hand sculptures, will display her artwork along with that of her sister, Christine Palamidessi of Boston, in “The Sisters Show” opening Saturday at the Saxonburg Area Artists Cooperative.

SAXONBURG — The Palamidessi sisters, Pam the younger and Christine the older, will exhibit their very different art forms at the Saxonburg Area Artists Cooperative, 215 Main St. rear.

“The Sisters Show” opens with a reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday featuring solo guitarist Dale Cinski and a wine tasting.

With Pam from Cumberland, Md., and Christine from Boston, an exhibit in Saxonburg seems far away.

But the women were art students of Sam Andrew — who helps direct the cooperative — when he taught at Highlands High School in Natrona Heights.

Christine dropped by the gallery recently and thought it would be fun to have a show together, Pam said. “She got the ball rolling and thought that her book sculptures and my art eggs would make a good fit.”

Christine creates sculptures and prints while Pam concentrates on the traditional egg decorating called pysanky, as well as the hands to go with them.

“I designed the stainless steel hand holders for the eggs because I wanted to do a 'Bird in Hand' series,” Pam said. “Everyone liked the hands so much that I am using them on other eggs as well.”

She also has experimented with eggshell jewelry and some paintings.

“Christine's wonderful book sculptures are so unique and although her style is different than mine, I think we both like to tell a story with our art. It will be amazing to see our work together ... very colorful and strong,” Pam said.

Pam traces their artistic bent to their upbringing.

Their very creative mother is just one of many artists and musicians on both sides of the family, Pam said.

“Growing up we made regular visits to the Carnegie Museum and were members of the art club at school,” Pam recalled.

“We were always trying something different like decorating a crab apple tree instead of the traditional pine tree for Christmas and hanging a big green poster of Geronimo on the wall. Well, that might not have been our most shining moment, but it does say something about our parents letting us express ourselves.”

“The Sisters Show” will continue through Aug. 18.
