JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley made sure Butler's lead was a short-lived one.

Following first-quarter goals by Evan Andreyo and Zach Harrison, the Golden Tornado held a 2-1 lead during Wednesday's boys lacrosse game.

But the Raiders scored nine of the next 10 goals and never trailed again in an 11-5 win on a soggy night at NexTier Stadium.

SV's employed a balanced offense, with Jake McAndrew, Tyler Bond, Colin O'Donoghue and Brent Rotz each scoring two goals in the triumph.

After Bond tied the game at 2-all, McAndrew and O'Donoghue scored goals eight seconds apart to make the score 4-2 with 3:31 left in the first quarter.

SV (13-3) led 10-3 at halftime.

"We have a very experienced offensive group," said SV coach Peter Hoffman. "We've been working really hard on ball movement. It was tough with the weather like it was, but our guys were still able to get it done."

After that early lead, Butler (8-5) managed just one more goal in the first half as Tyler Kotch pulled the Tornado to within 4-3 with just over two minutes remaining in the first period.

The Raiders controlled the tempo for much of the first half.

"Defensively, it was a communication thing," said Butler coach Ed Swierczyk. "The slides weren't there, but we became more vocal in the second half."

The Tornado didn't surrender a second-half score until O'Donoghue beat Butler goalie Alex Hill with 6:06 left in the contest.

But the Tornado were able to manage only two goals of their own in the final 24 minutes, both of them by Kotch.

"We just weren't able to settle the ball down and that didn't allow us to set up our offense," Swierczyk said.

"Our defense got off to a bit of a slow start tonight," said Hoffman. "But we knew we had to key on (Kotch and Cody Conklin) and we buckled down."

Also scoring for the Raiders were Jason Handerhan, Tom Comunale and Sean O'Rourke, while Bond had two assists.

Kotch led Butler with three goals, with Andreyo adding one helper.

Hill made 11 saves for the Tornado and Andy Branscum had seven for the Raiders.

Both teams will host a WPIAL first-round playoff game next Wednesday, Seneca Valley in Division I and Butler in Division II.
