Astros beat Red Sox, 5-4, in Game 1 of ALCS
HOUSTON — The Houston Astros used a power surge to wipe out an early deficit in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series Friday night.
Jose Altuve belted a two-run homer to knot the game in the bottom of the sixth inning and Carlos Correa added a solo shot in the seventh to give Houston a lead it never lost in a 5-4 victory.
The Astros took a 5-3 lead into the ninth inning and held on.
Houston’s bullpen pitched six scoreless innings before allowing the Red Sox a run in the ninth.
Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is Saturday. The National League Championship Series, pitting the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Atlanta Braves, begins Saturday as well.
Boston’s Kiké Hernandez had four hits in the game, including two home runs as the leadoff batter.
