Maxwell H. Burford

Maxwell H. “Max” Burford, 96, of Valencia died Sunday evening in the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia in Cabot.

Born in Rimersburg, Dec. 27, 1914, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Blanche Dixon Burford.

Max was an ironworker for 17 years and then was a truck driver/owner/operator for 22 years, belonging to Teamsters Union Local 538 in Kittanning. He then became a mechanic for Kermit Schwab's Bus Co.

He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Mars VFW Post 7505.

He attended Mars Alliance Church.

He was the father of Charles M. Burford and his wife, Brenda, of Cumming, Ga., and Jennifer Kirk and her husband, Stewart, and Daniel A. Burford and his wife, Missie, both of Valencia; grandfather of Kimberly Burford Dean (Andy), Nathan Kirk, Rachel Kirk and Andrew Burford; and great-grandfather of Dustin Alexander Dean.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel M. Leisie Burford, who he married May 16, 1953; his brothers, Maurice and Jay Burford; and his sisters, Elizabeth Gyger and Marjorie Burford.

<B>BURFORD</B> — The family of Maxwell H. “Max” Burford, who died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, will greet friends in Mars Alliance Church, Route 228, Mars, PA 16046, Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. Services will follow at 6 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Clarion County.Memorials may be made to the church or to the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023.Arrangements are under the direction of <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, Mars; and condolences are may be submitted at www.mcdonald-aeberli.com.
