The posts by Christine Cubbison and Laurie from Butler reveal a misunderstanding and misapplication of the principles of individual autonomy that I have advocated as the basis for drug decriminalization. Ms. Cubbison uses the example of being required to wear shoes when she eats at a restaurant as a counterexample to my position. Her argument is invalid on its face because it neglects a major aspect of the scenario, i.e. a restaurant is private property and the owner may set whatever policies they wish because it is their property. A person may do what they wish to their own body so long as it does not infringe on the rights of others (e.g. restaurant owners) but, to answer Laurie, people are always free to object or criticize as much as they wish, but are forbidden from using force (or governmental force) to interfere with a person's actions (so long as no other individual's rights are being violated).
