Knoch's Bauer, Greb sisters in semis
HERSHEY — Knoch junior Ally Bauer and sophomore sisters Emily and Lindsey Greb have advanced to the PIAA Class 2A girls tennis singles and doubles semifinals, respectively.
The PIAA tourney got underway Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club with first round and quarterfinal matches.
Bauer defeated Masterman freshman Giulia Sheth 6-2, 6-2 in the first round, then dispatched Lancaster Catholic junior Anna Miller in the quarterfinal round, 7-6, 6-0.
“Ally played very strong today,” Knoch coach Nance Conlon said. “She survived a very tight first set in the quarters, then took control of the match.”
Bauer will play Riverside senior Karissa Ghigiarelli in the semifinals.
“A very good player,” Conlon said. “Ally has never played her, but we know of her. That will be a very tough match.”
The Greb sisters defeated Wyomissing seniors Elise Wang and Ananya Raui 6-0, 6-0 in the first round, then knocked off Isabella and Francesca Bartolacci of Moravian Academy 7-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. The latter pair was District 11 doubles champion.
“Emily and Lindsey support each other well on the court,” Conlon said. “They showed excellent court awareness today.”
The Greb sisters will meet Villa Maria's Anne Marie Pritchard and Abby Consiglio in the semifinals.
“We played Villa in the team tournament, but one of those girls didn't play doubles for them,” Conlon said. “Abby Consiglio played against us, but the other player was out sick that day.”
The semifinal and final rounds will be played Saturday at the Hershey Racquet Club.
