John J. "Jerry" Rivers, 67, of Butler died at 4 p.m. Monday at Sunnyview Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 15, 1937, in Butler, he was the son of Elsie Marie Morrison Monn and the late John Anthony Rivers.

He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Mr. Rivers enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and watching football. He was an Army veteran.

He was disabled, but earlier in his life he had worked in construction.

Surviving are his mother and his stepfather, John Monn, both of Butler; four daughters, Sherry Geibel and Christina Rivers, both of Butler, Jerri Reges of Cabot and Rebecca Rivers of Chicora; two sons, Jeff and John Rivers, both of Butler; two stepsons, Bob Thibodeau of Fenelton and Ken Thibodeau of Butler; and five grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Joyce Rivers Fritch of Saltsburg and Kathie Rivers of Butler.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy; his second wife, Sandra; and a stepdaughter.

Jefferson St. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Philip Williams officiating.
