Hypothermia could be factor in death of Mercer County teenager, officials said

Hypothermia could have been a factor in the death of a teenager found in a stairwell in Sharon, the Mercer County Coronor’s office said in a news release Tuesday, Jan. 23.

The body of Zachariah Croom was discovered Sunday afternoon in an outside stairwell in the 100 block of North Irvine Avenue in Sharon, according to coroner John A. Libonati.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday, and Libonati wrote there is no suspicion of foul play connected to Zachariah’s death. He added that hypothermia could have been a factor.

Zachariah’s cause and manner of death will be released after forensic testing, Libonati said. The news release indicated results could take six to eight weeks.
