Grove City College freshman swimmer Caleb Courage was naned the Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer-Diver of the Week.
Courage set a school record in the 100-meter freestyle at the recent GCC Sprint Invitational with a time of 46.74 seconds. He also won the event against Carnegie Mellon.
Butler center Nate Hartung and punter Andy Goettler were named first team All-Quad North by the league's football coaches.Butler tight end Josh Wachter, Seneca Valley receiver Zach Duggan and defensive back Marshall Lee were second team selections. Butler running back Bob Alexander was an honorable mention.Jim Render of Upper St. Clair was named Quad North Coach of the Year.
Mike Choby, a senior linebacker at Grove City College, was named to the first-team All-Presidents Athletic Conference squad.Second-team selections include Grove City defensive back Ross Trimmer and defensive lineman Dan Bukowski, Waynesburg College halfback-tight end Dennis Gearhart (Freeport) and Thiel College running back Steve Minton (Seneca Valley).Honorable mention choices included Grove City center B.J. Arnold, offensive lineman lineman Matt Rice, receiver Dave DiDonato, running back Brandon McGlothlin, defensive lineman Jordan Johnson, defensive back Aaron Mango, punter Henry Johnston, return specialist Ross Trimmer and linebacker Mike Prioletti (Seneca Valley).Other area players receiving honorable mentions were Thiel offensive lineman Ricky Gable (Mars) and defensive lineman Chris Minton (Seneca Valley), and Washington & Jefferson linebacker Mike Sklarsky (Seneca Valley).
Layna Heilman-Houser a junior outside hitter on the Slippery Rock University women's volleyball team, was chosen for the PSAC Western Division All-Star team.Grove City High grad Katie Herman, a sophomore setter at Kuztown University, was a second-team PSAC East selection.
