STATE COLLEGE — Rex Energy, an oil and gas company, announced this week that it will spend between $100 million and $105 million in Butler County in 2013.

The company's 2013 capital budget reveals that its largest spending will be in further developing Marcellus Shale natural gas in the county with 19 new wells, the fracking of 22 more and putting 21 wells into service.

Rex Energy's total capital budget is expected to fall between $230 million and $250 million.

The company's 2012 budget was $155 million.

BUTLER TWP — Federal money will pay for a full-time nurse practitioner at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Dr. William DiCuccio, Sunnyview medical director, said at the board meeting Thursday that Medicare awarded UPMC a federal grant, which will be filtered down to facilities such as Sunnyview.DiCuccio said the nurse practitioner will examine residents and will help to educate other caregivers.“It's an exciting thing,” he said.DiCuccio said Butler Memorial Hospital will benefit because the new position should cut down on readmissions of Sunnyview patients to the hospital.

WASHINGTON — A children’s safety equipment manufacturer has agreed to recall about 220,000 infant travel beds after reports of one infant’s death and nine others entrapped or distressed while inside the portable sleep tents.The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall in cooperation with KidCo of Libertyville, Ill., early Friday after determining that an infant could roll between the bed’s air mattress and the tent’s fabric sides, raising the danger of suffocation.The Pea Pod Travel Crib has an air mattress that fits into a zippered pocket in the floor of the tent, which collapses for transport. But if the mattress is placed in the floor of the tent, an infant’s head could lodge between the mattress and the tent’s side, reportedly making breathing impossible.
