CENTER TWP — Three dogs died in Center Township after a house fire was reported on the 100 block of South Benbrook Road shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6.
After the fire had been extinguished, crews could be seen attempting to resuscitate a fourth dog in the snow-covered front yard as they waited for a veterinarian to arrive on scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire, which Chief Mike Pflugh of Unionville Volunteer Fire Company said began in the basement, was extinguished about within 10 minutes of arrival. The fire damaged parts of the basement as well as the first floor. Pflugh said he believed the cause was electrical in nature.
