Butler County Community College's honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, is hosting a dance fundraiser called "Sock Hop for Hope" from 7 to 10 p.m. April 27 in Founders Hall on campus. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

The event will cover music from the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s, and attendees are encouraged to wear costumes representing their favorite era. There will be snacks and drinks, a costume and dance contest and prizes for the winners.

Hoyt opens to new artistsThe Hoyt Artists' Association is planning its annual Spring Screening for new members from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.To be considered, a body of three to five works must be delivered in person for evaluation by a panel of judges. There is no application fee but, if accepted, annual dues are $45 per year. Results of the panel will be revealed on April 21 when the works are to be picked up between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.Jurors are looking for mature talent, consistency and vision. Artist statements, resumes or other support materials thought to strengthen one's application are encouraged.Membership is open to artists 18 years and older living within a 100-mile radius of New Castle through a screening process. PITTSBURGH — Fiddle and banjo music, along with harmonious song, will grace the bluegrass concert to benefit Catholic Charities' St. Joseph House of Hospitality. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. April 27 at Synod Hall, Oakland.This year's concert will feature local bluegrass artists Allegheny Drifters, Blue Shades, Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers, M&M Express and Nine Mile Run.Tickets are $20, with discounts for senior citizens and students available. WASHINGTON, Pa. — A Jewelry, Mineral and Bead Show is planned for May 4, 5 and 6 at the Washington County Fairgrounds.Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 4 and 5 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 6.Admission is $4 with the ticket valid for all three days; children younger than age 12 are admitted free with an accompanying adult.
