Deadline extended for tax, rent rebates

The Pennsylvania State Department of Revenue announced that the deadline to apply for rebates on rent and property taxes paid in 2019 for older adults and state residents with disabilities has been extended to Dec. 31.

Due to the closure of many commonwealth offices in the wake of the coronavirus, the department extended the deadline to allow residents, especially those who go to office for in-person help, more time.

Distribution of rebates will begin no earlier than July 1. It is free to apply for a rebate, and applicants may obtain Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms (PA-1000) and related information on the Department of Revenue’s website.

Starting in late April, claimants who already applied for rebates may check Property Tax/Rent Rebate Status online or call, toll-free, 1-888-PATAXES.
