New Year’s Eve activities set

Municipalities hosting New Year’s Eve activities include:

Harmony will host a Silvester celebration on New Year’s Eve, with a 5K run at 3 p.m., followed at 3:45 by a 1 mile Fun Run; museum tours; a pork and sauerkraut dinner; and fireworks at 6 p.m., midnight in Germany.

Slippery Rock is bringing back a New Year’s celebration for the first time in about 20 years.

The event, which is for people 21 and older, will be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Rock Catholic Parish Center, 342 Normal Ave. Music and a trivia game are planned.

Tickets are limited by the building’s capacity, which is 150. Tickets are $40. Call 724-794-2338.

First Night Oil City will feature family-oriented entertainment, two fireworks displays, outdoor bonfires, hat making, a kickoff Cool Night Light People Procession and children’s events.

Admission button is $10; children age 5 and younger are admitted free.

Jennings hike canceled

The First Day Hike planned for New Year’s Day at Jennings Environmental Education Center in cooperation with the Butler Outdoor Club has been canceled.

Visitors can hike the trails on their own. Trails are open from dawn to dusk, and staff will be in the park office building from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday.

Moraine State Park is hosting a First Day Hike from 1 to 4 p.m. New Year’s Day. Participants should meet at the bike rental parking lot on the North Shore. The hike is slated to be four to five miles long, but participants may take a shorter hike by turning back to the bike rental area earlier.

3 Rivers Arts Fest planned

PITTSBURGH — As part of plans for the 56th annual Three Rivers Arts Festival, an open call for visual and performing artists has gone out, and an information session is scheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 10.

The application deadline is Feb. 1.

The Artist Market, Juried Art Exhibition and Festival Special Projects will draw from a unique festival theme of Unseen/Unheard.
