Helen E. Holden

Helen E. Holden, 89, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Titusville, died Friday at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born Dec. 30, 1915, in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of Fred and Mary Haggerty Schlumbohn.

She had worked at Benson Memorial Library in Titusville for years as a library clerk.

Mrs. Holden was a member of St. Walburga Church in Titusville. She was an avid sports fan, which included watching tennis and golf. She enjoyed art and keeping current with news and events.

Mrs. Holden is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Gilbert and her husband, Robert Jr., of Pittsburgh, and Lorraine Strawbridge and her husband, Lester Jr., of Butler; seven grandchildren, Kari Hoyt, Jessica Bieranowski, Robert Gilbert III, Amy Koch, and David, Matthew and Suzanne Strawbridge, and six great-grandchildren, Selena, Seth and Meg Bieranowski, and Tanner Abby and Trey Koch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Holden, who died on Dec. 24, 1962, and by a sister, Dorothy Schlumbohn.

HOLDEN - A Mass of Christian burial for Helen E. Holden, who died Friday, July 8, 2005, was celebrated today at St. Walburga Church in Titusville with the Rev. D. G. Davis III as celebrant.Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery in Titusville.The family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 201 N. Franklin St., Titusville, PA 16354.The GORDON B. GARRETT FUNERAL HOME in Titusville is in charge of arrangements.
