Kmart closing sales set

Sears Holdings confirmed Wednesday that the Kmart store at Butler’s Pullman Square Plaza will be among dozens to close later this year.

On Tuesday news broke that the company, which owns Kmart and Sears, plans to close 72 Sears, Kmart and Sears Auto Center locations, in addition to more than 180 closings that were announced earlier this year.

The company said that the Butler store will close to the public in early September, and will begin a liquidation sale on June 15.

“We have been strategically and aggressively evaluating our store space and productivity, and have accelerated the closing of unprofitable stores as previously announced,” said Howard Riefs, the company’s director of corporate communications, in an email.

He said the company was not releasing the number of workers that would be affected by the closing, but added that most employees affected by the closure are employed on either a part-time or hourly basis.
