BUTLER TWP — AK Steel Butler Works has brought the No. 5 electric furnace back on line after a July fire.

Alan McCoy, AK's spokesman, said Wednesday the furnace was brought back online Monday and is currently on ramp-up mode.

On July 5, molten steel found a void in the furnace's brick lining, eventually melting through the furnace's steel wall.

No one was injured during the incident, and the company worked through the summer on repairs, which included removing hardened steel from the shop floor.
