Weitzel

Ruth E. Carothers Weitzel of Pinecrest, Fla., formerly of West Sunbury, passed away peacefully July 19 surrounded by her loving children.

Mom was predeceased by her son, Kirby Victor, in 1957, and her dear husband, Victor L. Weitzel, in 2004.

She is survived by her son, Gary Victor Weitzel (Hazel); and daughters, Hazel Kaye Arnold, Joanne Peedin (Robert) and Linda Ruth Peoples (Ron). She was blessed with eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, John and Tressie Carothers, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Arthur, Russell and Harry Carothers; and one sister, Hazel Hutchison.

Mom owned and operated Ruth Weitzel's Beauty Salon for 23 years in West Sunbury.

She was a former member of the West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church and a member of the Central Presbyterian Church of Kendall, Fla. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mom and Dad moved to South Florida in 1981 to be with their children. They owned and operated Weitzel's Palm Nursery. Mom continued running the nursery after Daddy's death in 2004 until 2009 when she finally retired.

She was an unfailing, generous, and, most of all, a wise woman with a vibrant and engaging personality who never met a stranger. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved to bake pies to be shared by family and friends who eagerly looked forward to them. All who knew her marveled at her hard work ethic.

Mom's passing will leave a large void in our lives and her presence will remain in our hearts forever.
