Plastics company fire caused $5,000 damage
ZELIENOPLE — One of the owners of a plastics company said a minor fire there last week caused only $5,000 worth of damage.
Christopher O’Leary, who owns Kenson Plastics with his brother, said Tuesday that the fire was contained to a small closet-like structure separated from the main complex.
The blaze was most likely caused by faulty wiring to a furnace in the 50 square-foot building, which is a drying room for plastic products.
O’Leary said the fire didn’t damage the small structure’s roof and that the main complex was never in danger.
He added that the new cooling room will be rebuilt with fireproof material in an all-steel structure.
The fire started just before midnight on April 15 at the company’s building at 620 W. Beaver St., which is the site of the former Leopold Plastics building. It is across the street from the Zelienople Volunteer Fire Company.
Kenson Plastics had recently relocated to Zelienople, coming from Warrendale in Allegheny County.
The company has more than 20 employees.
