Roundabout being discussed at Clinton Twp. intersection
CLINTON TWP — Plans to build the second traffic roundabout in Butler County may soon be under way.
The proposed project would be at the intersection of state routes 228 and 2005 in Clinton Township.
A meeting and public display of the project will be Thursday. The meeting will be from 3 to 4 p.m. and the display will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the township municipal building, 711 Saxonburg Boulevard, Saxonburg.
Representatives with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be there to answer questions.
“The intersection has a lot of traffic, and the traffic is balanced in every direction,” said Mark Rozich, civil engineer manager with PennDOT. “Roundabouts improve safety. It keeps everybody always moving.”
According to PennDOT, roundabouts are safer than traffic lights and are less expensive.
When comparing drivers going through roundabouts and those going through traffic lights, there’s a 90 percent decrease in fatal crashes.
That’s because most head-on, left turning accidents in oncoming traffic are prevented.
The current roundabout in the county is in Cranberry Township.
