Raising the bar
Century steelworkers put steel up Tuesday for the Marriott Springhill Suites at Jefferson and McKean streets in Butler.
The $8.2 million, 76-room hotel is part of the Centre City project, which includes a 238-space parking garage being built next to it and the Rite Aid store that is already open.
The hotel, previously set to be finished by the end of the year, now is to be done by early spring of 2017.
“We’ve had some challenges that we’ve overcome, and we’re finally getting moving now, and things should speed up here once we start the framing phases of the project,” said project superintendent Steve Savage.
“You’ll see a lot of activity on site, a lot of progress.”
The hotel is being built by the city and J.S. Capitol.
Construction director Floyd Beaudette said the hotel is on budget.
