Blaze destroys mobile home

A family of four is homeless after a fire destroyed their mobile home Thursday night on Pinehurst Road in Center Township. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but officials say a cigarette likely started the fire. No injuries were reported, but ice hindered efforts of firefighters.

CENTER TWP — A family of four escaped injury after their mobile home caught fire at 116 Pinehurst Road Thursday night.

Firefighters were called to the site at 9:15 p.m. The Unionville Volunteer Fire Company was in command of the scene.

Fire Chief Greg Brewster said the home was a total loss. He said the two owners of the home and their two teenage children escaped without injury before units arrived.

The owner of the home is Matt Farr.

Brewster said the cause of the fire is still being investigated by the fire marshal, but the fire is believed to have been caused by a cigarette.

He said the part of the home where the fire started is still undetermined due to the amount of damaged cause by the fire.

Brewster said he did not have an estimated value of the damage, but added Farr said he had insurance on the home.

Brewster said it was a difficult fire to control because the roof of the home caved in. He added the icy condition of the driveway also made it difficult for fire trucks.

About 30 firefighters from Lick Hill, Prospect, West Sunbury, North Washington and Oneida Valley volunteer fire departments assisted on the scene.

Units from Mercer Road, East Butler and Herman were on standby.

All units were cleared from the scene by midnight.

The family is staying with relatives.
