Saxonburg expects slight surplus in 2024 budget
The borough of Saxonburg is anticipating a surplus of $3,557 in its draft budget for 2024, which the borough council voted to put up for advertisement at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
The 2024 draft budget, which is now publicly available on the borough’s website, estimates revenue for the year to come in at $774,645, with expenditures totaling $771,088.
The borough expects to collect much of its revenue from local taxes, including $251,701 from real estate taxes and $220,610 from per capita taxes. Another $40,000 will come from Summit Township, which receives contracted police services from the Saxonburg Police Department.
The borough is expecting another $28,560 from various community grants.
“We’re expecting them to come in from different organizations that have pledged that money. They have those funds on hand,” said borough secretary Steven May. “These are 501(c)3 community organizations.”
The bulk of the expenditures — $268,528 — are for police services, with $207,550 going toward police salaries and wages.
The budget includes $70,200 earmarked for employee pension and retirement fund contributions, while $64,192 will pay for employee benefits. Another $49,428 will go toward professional services, such as accounting, auditing and engineering.
Physical copies of the draft budget are available at the Saxonburg municipal building.
It is expected that the borough council will vote to finalize the draft budget at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
The draft budget was first reviewed at the borough council meeting on Oct. 17. According to May, no changes were made from then until the time it was approved for advertisement.
