Middlesex expects slight surplus in 2024 draft budget

Middlesex Township is expecting a surplus of $28,781 in its draft budget for 2024, which was approved for advertisement at the monthly board of supervisors meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

The 2024 draft budget estimates revenue to come in at $4,038,023, against $4,009,242 in expenses. Both numbers are higher than in the 2023 budget, which called for $3,829,999 in revenue and $3,787,099 in expenditures.

The township expects to bring in more than half of its projected revenue through local taxes, to the tune of $2,872,000. Another $399,070 is expected to come from “charges for services,” which includes traffic impact fees, public safety revenue and engineering review fees.

The largest item on the expenditures sheet is public works for highways and streets, which comes in at $1,688,388. Other major expenditures include public safety, which is valued at $1,005,032 — this includes the cost of running the Middlesex Township Police Department.

“General government” expenditures are estimates at $629,588, which includes wages for township staff and the cost of maintaining the municipal building.

Middlesex Township’s 2024 draft budget is available for review on the township’s website, www.middlesextownship.org.
