Paul D. Kane Sr.
Paul D. (Kojadinovich) Kane Sr., 84, of Butler, passed away peacefully at Butler Memorial Hospital, after a long illness on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, with his three children by his side.
Paul was born in Butler, on Oct. 4, 1939, to the late Stephan and Josephine (Krulicki) Kojadinovich. He grew up in Lyndora, the youngest of three children and graduated from Butler Senior High School in 1957. He married the former Marilyn Elizabeth Holot, also of Lyndora, on May 6, 1961. Together they shared 58 years of marriage.
After graduating from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh on June 12, 1959, with a diploma in advertising illustration, Paul worked in the Butler Eagle’s advertising department for eight years. In February 1968, he began a 33½-year career as a slitterman in the Armco Steel Mill strip shears department, where he retired in 2001.
Paul was an avid fan of Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Steelers, whom he followed without fail, win or lose. He loved to watch classic TV shows, old Westerns and World War II movies and collected World War II books. He also enjoyed listening to a variety of music, including Big Band, polka, country and the Bee Gees. Paul was a wonderful, gifted artist who created many paintings, sketches and drawings for family and friends, often upon request.
Everyone who met Paul instantly knew he was a great guy and loved his personality. He will be remembered especially for his smile, quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, the snappy one-liners he’d come up with out of the blue, and “bad dad jokes.”
Paul leaves behind to cherish his memories two daughters, retired Col. Kris Kane, U.S. Air Force, of Navarre, Fla., and Marilyn E. Kane of Butler, with whom he made his home and who was his stalwart primary caregiver and advocate in his later years; his son, Paul D. Kane Jr. and wife, Tammy, and their daughter, Alyssa Kane, all of Bethel Park; a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, loyal friends and neighbors; and his beloved toy poodle, Spunky, who never left his side.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, who passed away on Dec. 13, 2019; his older brother, Joseph; sister, Stephanie (Heckel) Kojadinovich; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Paul’s family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Carlsson, Dr. Dobrzynski, Dr. Provenzano and Dr. Shrishrimal for their caring, tireless efforts, as well as his ICU nurses, Colby and Joe, who provided him compassionate bedside care at the end.
