A porch on Knox Avenue in Butler caught fire early this morning.

Lt. Donald McCoy of the Butler Fire Department said the cause appears to be a porch light that shorted out.

McCoy said Jason Harvey, the tenant at 127 Knox Ave., used buckets of water to douse the visible flames.

Once firefighters responded to the 2:32 a.m. 911 call, they opened up the porch wall to soak the hot spots.

Although the vinyl siding and wood underneath were impacted, McCoy said the damage was minimal.

A specific damage amount was unavailable.

Crews cleared the scene around 3 a.m.
