Crossing Counties
Breaking ground on the future site of the Thorn Hill Industrial Park on Nov. 9, 1970, were commissioners from both Allegheny and Butler counties, hoisting shovels filled with dirt across the symbolic line dividing the counties. Shown, from left, are Leonard Staisey, chairman, and Thomas Foerster from Allegheny County and commissioners James Green, Leon Gant Jr., chairman, and Charles Chew of Butler County. More recently, county officials lauded Verizon Wireless' plans for an expansion that will create 338 new jobs in Butler and Allegheny counties. Verizon will relocate about 300 current employees to a newly leased 68,000-square-foot building across from its regional headquarters in the industrial park.
