An intoxicated man was arrested after he ended up in a neighbor's home and started arguing with the occupant, authorities said.

Charles C. Barr Jr., 51, of Butler reeked of alcohol about 8:25 p.m. Aug. 30 when police found him staggering outside the wrong apartment on the 200 block of North Elm Street.

Barr, who lives on the 300 block of North Elm Street, faces a preliminary hearing Sept. 25 on a felony charge of trespass, a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and a summary charge of public drunkenness. He is free on $2,000 bail.

The 32-year-old victim told police that he was lying in bed when he heard someone come through his door. He did not recognize the intruder, who he believed was intoxicated.

“(He) asked Barr if he needed anything,” according to court documents, “but Barr would not answer him.”

The tenant asked the defendant to leave several times. Instead, police said, Barr began to get angry, violent, and was yelling with (the victim).”

The stranger eventually left but only after the victim's parents arrived there.

An officer noted that Barr was intoxicated to the point that he could not find his wallet that was in the back pocket of his jeans.

Just four days later, police arrested Barr again for an alcohol-related offense.

A passer-by about 3:15 p.m. Sunday notified a patrolman of a man down and out in weeds along Cedar Street near Quarry Street. The officer found the defendant uninjured but intoxicated.

Barr was taken to the police station and held there until he sobered up. Police cited him for public drunkenness.
