Nora Mae Smith
Nora Mae (Dunlap) Smith, 95, of Slippery Rock Township, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 14, 2023, at Transitions Healthcare Autumn Grove, Harrisville.
Nora Mae was born on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 1928, in Chicora to Jess Bertrum Dunlap and LuLu Mae Seybert-Dunlap.
She graduated from Chicora High School and received her nursing degree from Butler School of Nursing.
Nora Mae married William Finley Smith on Sunday, July 2, 1950. They were married for 65 years upon his passing on Feb. 9, 2016.
Nora Mae worked for Butler Health System for over 20 years in the maternity ward. She finished her nursing career at the Slippery Rock University Student Health Center.
Nora Mae was a member of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church. She started a Bible study at the church and was a member of the King’s Daughters.
Nora Mae enjoyed crocheting and crafts. She and Bill were fortunate enough to have had time to travel. They visited Europe, Alaska and Hawaii, among many other beautiful places. One of her favorite trips was to Canada to go fishing every year. She wasn’t so concerned with the fish she caught, but with her companions and the beauty of her surroundings.
Nora Mae’s greatest loves in life were her family and friends. She and Bill would host many people at their home over the years, sometimes talking and laughing into the wee hours of the morning. She relished every family reunion and get-together no matter how big or how small. These events were not limited to family, she always made sure friends were also included. Nora Mae would delight in taking long drives around the area with family members, just enjoying the scenery and long talks.
Members of Nora Mae’s family who will cherish her memory are one daughter, Penny L. Lawrence, and her husband, Paul, of Mercer; and three sons, Harold B. Smith and his wife, Karen, of Grove City, Dwight W. Smith and his wife, Cheryl, of Sarasota, Fla. and David A. Smith and his wife, Terry, of Harrisville; 13 grandchildren, Matthew P.
