Hawkins

Violet B. Hawkins, 89, of Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, formerly of Penn Township, died Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born May 9, 1917, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Robert and Mabel Potts Brown.

She was a graduate of Peabody High School and Miss Conley's Secretarial School in Pittsburgh. During World War II, she was a secretary at the Navy Torpedo Factory in Newport, R.I. She also had worked at Duquesne Light Co. and the United Fund of Butler County. She served on the YWCA board of directors and belonged to the Penn Township Woman's Club. She was an avid bridge player and had a love of poetry.

Mrs. Hawkins taught Sunday school and was a lay leader at Nixon United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her sons, David (Tammy) Hawkins of Erin, N.Y., and James (Yvonne) Hawkins of Butler; four grandchildren, Steven and S. Adam Hawkins, Lyndsey Hawkins-Piccolino and David Hawkins Jr.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Samuel Hawkins, who died July 16, 1995, and two sisters, Elizabeth MacAdams and Myrtle Franz.

<B>HAWKINS</B> — Friends of Violet B. Hawkins, who died Sunday, April 15, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Hartman officiating.
