SAXONBURG COUNCIL
QUESTION: Why are you running for election?
NOVOTNY: I care about my community.
GILLESPIE: I am running for re-election to Saxonburg Borough Council to provide responsible local government in budgeting, public safety, and our relationship with the Authority.
STANEK: I am running to work closely with building owners to help fill empty storefronts and bring business into Saxonburg.
FELSING: For the good of the town, try to make a difference. Service for the good of the town to instill pride in Saxonburg, and try to get new businesses to locate (in the borough). Be business friendly.
CRAWFORD: No response.
QUESTION: What are your top three priorities if you win election?
NOVOTNY: 1. We need to support our library, it’s doing some great things.
2. Open a broader line of communication and more importantly cooperation between the borough and our business association, property owners, and community organizations.
3. Focus on the economic stability of our community.
GILLESPIE: The most challenging three issues that we face is budgeting (particularly in rising health care cost), personnel matters, and stormwater. We must provide reasonable budgeting, a balanced approach to personnel matters, and work yearly on our stormwater problems.
STANEK: 1. Bring businesses into Saxonburg;
2. To promote Saxonburg as a place to come and shop and stay;
3. To bring new and fresh ideas to the table and bring people to visit.
FELSING: 1. Stormwater management;
2. Getting phase 2 of Main Street project finished;
3. Bring ordinances up to date and bring some new ordinances to the town for the better.
CRAWFORD: No response.
QUESTION: What part should local government play in overseeing natural gas drilling activity in your municipality, including how impact fee money should be spent?
NOVOTNY: Protect the rights of property owners. Money should be used in a way that most benefits the whole community.
GILLESPIE: We should have the flexibility to apply those funds to the most pressing budget items.
STANEK: To represent local residents and the town. The free money should be spent to benefit the local community.
FELSING: Enact ordinances to limit impact on town not to go against ordinance already in place; work with the gas drillers and be in good communication with them if problems come up to solve them, not blame each other.
Money should go to general fund and capital expenditures for improvement to the town.
CRAWFORD: No response.
