Members of the Rhythmettes, a baton-twirling auxiliary of the Valencia Fire Department, march in the July 4, 1965, parade in downtown Mars. The parade that year had 65 units, lasted an hour and attracted at least 7,000. Afterward, there were ball games, amusement rides and other festivities. The celebration ended with a giant fireworks display. This year's Fourth of July parade in Mars begins at 6 p.m. and runs along Pittsburgh Street and Grand Avenue. Fireworks will be at 10 p.m. over Reservoir Hill. Fourth of July activities also will be held in Butler, which will hold its Freedom Celebration from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Butler Memorial Park. Festivities will include food, live music and a car and motorcycle show. Fireworks will begin at dusk. Cranberry Township will celebrate Community Day Wednesday at the Cranberry Community Park. Fireworks will start at 10 p.m.
