Joyce Erie
Joyce A. Erie, 82, of Meadville, passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born in North Franklin, Armstrong County, on July 14, 1941.
On Nov. 21, 1959, Joyce married John C. Erie, who survives.
Joyce was a member of St. Mary of Grace Church and had been a member of the Altar Rosary Society.
Joyce was a 1959 graduate of Moniteau High School and began employment at Rand McNally of Skokie, Ill. After moving to Meadville, she was employed by the former Montgomery Ward department store and then worked for the former Avtex Corporation in the spinning department. During this time she also worked alongside her husband as they owned and operated the former Johnny's Pizza on Water Street and T.J. Pizza on Poplar Street for 33 years. Additionally, for 54 years, she worked the family pizza booth at the Crawford County Fair. She was a member of the Italian Civic Club, enjoyed bowling and loved to read. She will be missed.
In addition to her husband, John, of nearly 64 years, Joyce is survived by four sons, John C. Erie Jr. (Carol) and Anthony “Tony” Erie, both of Meadville, Dennis Erie of Townville and Mark Erie (Heather) of Suffolk, Va.; nine grandchildren, Thomas, Catrina, Robert, Matthew, Gabrielle, Nicholas, Zoe, Emma and Lydia; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Liam, Aden, Stetson, Wyatt, Ada and Shailae; siblings, Darlene Cabot of Cleveland, Ohio, Lawrence “Buck” DeLair (Sandy) of Parker and Jim DeLair of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Freda Mae and Lawrence DeLair; and a brother, William “Billy” DeLair.
ERIE — Family and friends of Joyce A. Erie, who died Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Scripture service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Deacon Ed Horneman officiating.
Joyce will be laid to rest in St. Agatha Cemetery.
