Chiappini

Michael A. “Mickey” Chiappini, 75, of Butler, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Butler on June 4, 1948, he was a son of the late Thomas and Helen Schepp Chiappini.

Mickey was a 1966 graduate of Butler High School.

A Vietnam veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972 and was stationed in Saigon.

He was employed at Pullman Standard and CSX Railroad, and he later co-owned the Checkered Flag Lounge.

He was a member of All Saints Parish, Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. He also belonged to VFW Post 249, the Summit Township Sportsman’s Club, American Legion Post 778, and the NRA.

Mickey was very adventurous. He spent time in the Sierra Nevada Mountains mining for gold, he skied out West, and he raced go-carts, winning a championship.

He loved going to Lernerville Speedway, attending the races every Friday for many years. He also had a love of classic cars and guns and he enjoyed outings to gun raffles and car cruises. Most of all, he loved watching his grandson play hockey.

Mickey made many lifelong friends along the way. He was famous for his sense of humor, which he retained to the very end.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Norma Shriver Chiappini, whom he married Nov. 29, 1985; his daughter, Tiffany Gregory, and son-in-law, Eric Powers, of Butler; his grandson, Colton, whom he loved dearly; his sister-in-law, Patty Chiappini; his niece and nephews; and his beloved fur baby, Sissy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ernie Chiappini.

CHIAPPINI — Friends of Michael A. “Mickey” Chiappini, who died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler.

A blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating.

Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by American Legion Post 778, VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 117 and VFW Post 499.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053, or to the Blind Association of Butler and Armstrong, 322 N. Cedar St., Butler, PA 16001.
