SLIPPERY ROCK — Betsy Kemeny, Slippery Rock University assistant professor of parks and recreation, has been elected to the national board of the American Therapeutic Recreation Association.

The association is a membership organization advocating for certified therapeutic recreation specialists. Kemeny teaches therapeutic recreation at SRU.

“I am honored and thrilled to be able to serve the profession and represent the SRU therapeutic recreation program in this capacity,” Kemeny said.

Association members through a national ballot elected her to the one-year term.

One role, among others, will be to develop and provide a leadership development program for the Peg Connolly Scholarship winners. The scholarship is for college students from around the country.

GROVE CITY — Grove City College is seeking nominations for the 32nd annual Campus-Community Awards to be presented in November.Two awards are given each year, one for a Grove City College campus representative and one for a representative of the greater Grove City borough. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 20.The criteria for both awards is the same: to seek an individual who has brought the relationship of Grove City College and the borough together and has demonstrated and cultivated positive relationships between the two.The nominee for the community award must be a local individual who has demonstrated or cultivated positive relationships between the college and one or more community groups.The nominee for the campus award must be a college employee or current student who donates substantial hours of volunteer service that benefits one or more organizations in the Grove City area.To nominate a qualified individual deserving of a Campus-Community Award, contact Charlene Shaw, associate director of alumni programs and events, at cmshaw@gcc.edu.Letters also will be accepted, mailed to Charlene Shaw, Alumni Office, 100 Campus Drive, Grove City, PA 16127.
