Geagan gets 4 TDs in Moniteau win

HERMITAGE — Dustin Geagan isn't a freshman anymore.

That was the message Moniteau football coach Jeff Campbell sent to his young running back this week, leading up to the Warriors game against Kennedy Catholic Saturday afternoon.

Message received.

Geagan scored four first-half touchdowns as the Warriors rolled to a 42-0 rout of the Eagles.

"He took a lot of abuse all week about finishing his runs," Campbell said of his freshman back who he implored to play more like a veteran. "He's played tailback the whole season. I don't want to hear freshman this, freshman that. He needed to start running like a sophomore or a junior and he did that."

Moniteau (5-4) blew Kennedy Catholic off the ball at the line of scrimmage, opening gaping holes for Geagan and quarterback Kyle Armagost.

Geagan scored on touchdown runs of 3, 8 and 7 yards in the first half.

He also scored on a 37-yard reception from Armagost on the third play of the game.

Geagan finished with 56 yards on 13 carries.

Several of Geagan's runs came off option pitches from Armagost, who had been hesitant to pitch in several games this season.

To Campbell, the option game finally clicked.

"Now we gave (other teams) something to look at," Campbell said. "If (Armagost) will do that in the playoffs, now we have those dual threats out there."

Armagost counts as two threats all by himself.

The junior rushed for 160 yards on 18 carries and also completed 3-of-4 passes for 80 yards.

Armagost has now rushed for 1,042 yards and passed for 1,186 yards this season.

He is the first quarterback at the school to go over 1,000 yards both rushing and passing in the same season. Armagost is also only the second Butler County quarterback to accomplish the feat since 2001 (Jono Powell of Slippery Rock did it in 2008).

"It's a very rare thing," Campbell said. "He did it in nine games. That's pretty phenomenal."

So was the Warriors defense, which held Kennedy Catholic (1-8) to 88 yards of offense and less than two yards per carry.

Moniteau will travel to undefeated Grove City next week in a playoff tune-up for both teams.

Campbell expects there to be plenty of new faces on the field. Bring a roster.

"I talked to (Grove City coach Jeff Bell) Tuesday and we're going to play our starters for at least the first quarter, then we are going to start subbing," Campbell said. "We don't want to get anyone hurt."
