Bernice Thoma
Bernice Thoma, 84, of Saxonburg, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.
Born April 23, 1939, in Butler, she was the daughter of Bernard Gajewski and Helen (Yankowski) Gajewski.
Bernice had worked as a secretary for West Penn Power. In her earlier years, she was a member of the St. Stanislaus R.C. Church in Lyndora and currently a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Parish, Holy Sepulcher Church. Bernice was a volunteer at the Butler Health System. She was a member of Bradys Bend American Legion Post 488 and Saxonburg VFW Post 7376. Bernice enjoyed an evening glass of wine, cheering on the Steelers, Pens and Pirates, cooking, boating at East Brady and her weekly card club for the past 40 years.
Surviving are her husband, Paul Thoma Jr., whom she married on Jan. 30, 1960; two sons, Brian (Lori) Thoma of Butler and Bruce (Laura) Thoma of Butler; her brother, John Gajewski of Butler; five grandchildren, Brad (Kylie) Thoma, Nicki Thoma, Katie Thoma, Maddi (Bob) Jackson and Ben Thoma; three great-grandchildren, Brycen, Brody and Barrett; and her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Thoma.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard Gajewski and Helen Yankowski Gajewski.
THOMA — A memorial Mass for Bernice Thoma, who died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Mark the Evangelist Parish, Holy Sepulcher Church, with the Rev. Charles Bober officiating.
Interment will follow in Saxonburg Memorial Church Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Concordia Lutheran Ministries, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
