VALENCIA — Seneca Valley hockey coach Mike Schall was looking to get the power play clicking against Butler on Monday.

Once it got going, it couldn't stop.

The Raiders scored the first four goals of the game on power-play opportunities and finished 6-for-10, rolling to a 9-3 victory over the Golden Tornado at the Ice Connection of Pittsburgh.

"We spent an hour (Sunday) working on it," said Schall. "It's something we've been trying to get the right combinations.

"I think we really found it. We have to keep the guys believing and keep the puck moving. When you do that, good things will happen,"Schall added.

"The problem with our game is we're spending a lot of time in the box," said Butler assistant coach Damon Hoak. "When you spend 30 minutes in the box, they're going to have opportunities.

"It was our worst game of the year. We had made great strides this season,"Hoak added.

Andrew Tang's goal 7:20 into the game gave the Raiders the 1-0 lead, one that would stand up the rest of the period.

"I think, in the first period, everyone was feeling everyone out," said Schall. "I think we only gave up two shots in the first period."

Matt Jarrett's wrist shot with 11;38 left in the second period doubled the Raiders' lead.

The Tornado (2-3) had an opportunity to cut it when they had a two-man advantage for 1:33, but Seneca Valley (2-0) successfully killed it.

Rich Schutte and Mike Rohm added power play goals 1:26 apart to open a 4-0 SV advantage with 6:39 left in the period.

Mavrik Goepfert got Butler on the board with 2:34 left in the second when he took a deflection off a save by Raiders goalie Scott Vanhorn and buried the puck into the net.

Seneca Valley's fifth goal came seven seconds after another power play had expired, but a sprawling John Raymus pushed a shot that trickled past Butler goalie Tim Smith with 1:29 left.

Tanner Master's goal with 9.2 seconds left allowed Butler to trim the deficit to 5-2, but the Raiders tacked on four more goals in the third period to pull away.

"Part of our problem is, in the game, we get down on each other," said Hoak. "One thing Coach (Joe) Honzo and I reiterate is you can't point fingers. We tend to scatter when things get through.

"That's happened the past few seasons and it's something Joe and I want to try and square it out,"Hoak added.

Scott Ruggerio, Tang, Brandon Platt and Matt Jarrett added goals in the final period for the Raiders.

"We have four lines we want to make use of," said Schall. "This game was a chance to get the guys going, to keep them fresh, and they did a nice job. We had some breakdowns and there's some stuff we have to clean up."

Notes: Master stole the puck and scored his second goal of the night with 1:41 remaining to close out the scoring, ... The Raiders outshot Butler 31-12, ... Butler was 1-for-5 on the power play, ... In a quirky bit of scheduling, both teams will have at least 10 days off before returning to action. Butler will host North Allegheny Nov. 15 at the Ice Connection while Seneca Valley will host Hempfield Nov. 16 at Warrendale BladeRunners.
