PENN TOWNSHIP — Butler Country Club will host the 19th annual West Penn Inter-Club Mixed Doubles Youth Tennis Championships Thursday.

Play begins at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to conclude during mid-afternoon.

The event is open to the public at no charge.

The second annual Baseball, Bands and Boom Celebration will take place July 4 at Kelly Automotive Park.The Butler BlueSox host the Danville Dans at 4 p.m. The Aimee Jane Willer Band will perform after the game, followed by the City of Butler's fireworks display.Combo tickets for the game and concert are $13 for reserved, $12 for field level and $11 for general admission. A ticket for the concert only is $5.No game tickets may be purchased separately.

OAKLAND, Calif. — The head of the Big Ten painted a dire picture of what college sports would look like if players were paid. He said his conference likely would cease to exist and the Rose Bowl probably would not be played.Jim Delany said the idea of paying players goes against the entire college experience and he couldn't see league members agreeing to it. If some did, he said, they likely would be kicked out of the conference because the move would create an imbalance among schools.Delany followed NCAA President Mark Emmert to the witness stand in a landmark antitrust suit brought by former UCLA basketball star Ed O'Bannon and others.

CLEVELAND — David Blatt went overseas to chase his basketball dreams. He's coming back to fulfill them.One of Europe's top coaches, Blatt was hired by the Cavaliers, who ended a 39-day search.The club signed the 55-year-old Blatt him to a three-year deal that includes a team option for a fourth year and could be worth $20 million.From staff and wire reports.
