Stroke focus of painting event
GROVE CITY — David Blakely and his daughters, Jennifer Peterson, Stephanie Selchenik, Marisa Sapar, Kelly Williamson and Kate Blakely created paintings in memory of Blakely's wife, Paula, who died in May of 2013.
The family participated in Grove City Medical Center's “Strokes for Stroke” painting event hosted by Easel Your Mind and Medtronic, in recognition of May as Stroke Awareness Month.
It included the creation of paintings of hearts with the message “I love you more,” — something Kelly Williamson said her father and stepmother would tell each other every day. Artist Amber Schoener guided 30 people in the exercise.
The event also included education by stroke specialist Cheryl Demoko on the importance of early detection of strokes and steps people should take if they suspect someone is experiencing or has experienced a stroke.
