Phyllis J. (Dye) Klara, 95, of Mercer, passed away on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023.

Born Jan. 10, 1928, in Grove City, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude (Price) Dye.

Phyllis graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and California University of PA in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in public school nursing. She was a member of St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church. She was a former member of St. Irenaeus, where she was involved with the Ladies of Charity, and a former member of St. John the Baptist Church in Plum Borough.

She spent many hours volunteering at Presbyterian Care, Meals on Wheels and the library at Passavant. She also collected money for St. Gregory Church during the Lenten season.

Phyllis leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Karen (Alan) Osan, Tom (Stephanie) Klara, Jill Boehnke and Melinda Gavasto; her six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her siblings, John (Patty) Dye, Leslie Dye and Carol (Bob) Orr; and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Dye.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Walter S. Klara; her brother, Thomas Dye; and her son-in-law, George Gavasto.

KLARA — Friends of Phyllis J. (Dye) Klara, who died Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Divine Grace Parish, St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople, PA 16063.

Memorial donations can be made in her honor to St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church at the address above.
