I was almost perfect last week, except for those darn Eagles.

Its fitting an Eagle — this time a Grove City one — would foil my perfection.

Of course, we all can't be perfect, except for Brett Favre.

I bet if any one of these high school teams had Brett Favre, it would be perfect this season, too. Although, having a 40-year-old dude with more gray hair than Albus Dumbledore as your "senior" quarterback would raise some eyebrows and bring the forfeit police down on you.

On to the picks:

Franklin Regional 21, Mars 15 — This is a megamatchup early in the Greater Allegheny Conference (or the GAC as I like to call it) slate.You win the GAC with defense, my friends. Mars has a good one, but it's hard to ignore the Franklin Regional offense, which may be the best O in the GAC.Therefor, Franklin Regional wins in a close one.•

Pine-Richland 19, Butler 13 — The Golden Tornado's last section win against a team other than Seneca Valley came in 2003. I was a mere hatchling back then.Butler made a spirited comeback last week, but ultimately fell short. The Tornado should make it close again.•

North Hills 24, Seneca Valley 19 — Upset alert! Upset alert! North Hills should win, but don't count out those pesky Raiders.•

Hampton 27, Knoch 11 — The Talbots have too much for the Knights.•

Slippery Rock 29, Titusville 5 — The Rockets broke out last week against Reynolds, using a stingy defense and the bullish running of QB Ayron Gallagher to smash the Raiders 31-0. Of course, everyone is smashing Raiders these days.In this battle of the Rockets, the Rockets will win easily — the Slippery Rock ones, that is.•

Karns City 30, Redbank Valley 12 — The Gremlins wear purple, and purple is the dominant color in football right now.KC will dominate again.•

Moniteau 31, Keystone 27 — The new-look Warriors defense gets its first real test.•

Clarion 38, Union 12 — The Bobcats are marching toward an epic battle with Karns City next week.•

Freeport 18, Valley 14 — You don't bet against the Yellowjackets, just like you don't bet against whatshisname in Minnesota.•

Brookville 43, A-C Valley 8 — Give the Falcons credit. They show up every Friday ready to play and play hard throughout the game.The talent just isn't there — yet.•

Summit Academy 19, West Shamokin 7 — This has been a strange year for Summit. Usually, the offense is potent, but the defense is leaky.This season, it's the opposite. The defense is strong, but the offense is the weak link.None of that matters against West Shamokin, which has been outscored 250-3 in five games this season.Ouch.•

Hickory 25, Grove City 16 — The Eagles were thumped by Greenville last week and the Hornets stunned Wilmington.Not a good combo for Grove City.Scoop is 47-9 this season. Beat that, Brett Favre.
