The Butler High School competitive cheerleading squad won the WPIAL small varsity championship over the weekend.

The Golden Tornado tallied 245 points, edging out Pine-Richland (243.5). Franklin Regional was third with 209. There were 16 teams in the small varsity division.

Shaler won the medium varsity division with 249 points while North Allegheny won the large varsity title with 217.5.

ORLANDO — Butler BlueSox owner and managing partner William “Wink” Robinson was named the Prospect League's new president at the league's January meeting on Monday.Robinson began serving as the league's vice president in 2013. He takes over as president for Bryan Wickline, who was recently elected as commissioner. The former will continue to perform his duties with the BlueSox, along with his new role.Robinson said in a released statement, “The key to future success in the Prospect League will be to continue with the unity existing among all 12 current ball clubs. While each team must operate its franchise within the league's requirements, there are unquestionably individual and unique identities among the 12 teams. My role is to maintain the league's progressive course with the assistance from the other 11 members.”

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — If Peyton Manning's injury was worse than he let on, his teammates sure didn't see it.In the aftermath of his poor playoff performance in the Broncos' 24-13 loss to Indianapolis, Manning said the right thigh bruise he suffered Dec. 14 at San Diego lingered but wasn't bad enough to sideline him. On Monday, ESPN, citing two people it didn't name, reported that Manning played with a “torn” quad muscle, the severity of which he had tried to conceal.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Rex Ryan is officially going from Broadway to Buffalo.The Bills announced in a news release Monday that Ryan has been hired to take over as coach. The news came a day after the former New York Jets coach tentatively accepted the Bills’ contract offer. Ryan replaces Doug Marrone, who stepped down abruptly on Dec. 31.Ryan will be formally introduced during a press conference scheduled for Wednesday.
