Michael Roskovski

Michael "Iron Mike" Roskovski, 89, of Linsdale Drive died Sunday at Sunnyview Nursing Home.

Born May 8, 1916, in Joliet, Ill., he was a son of Michael A. and Ann Ferjo Raskowsky.

He had been a steelworker and retired as a first helper in the melt shop at Armco-Butler Works on May 30, 1981, after 45 years. He was a member of the Armco Veterans' Club.

As a young man during the Great Depression, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Bedford area.

He was a lifelong member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora until the church closed, and was a current a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian.

Surviving are his wife, Vera Canan Roskovski, whom he married April 10, 1940; a son, Michael W. "Mickey" Roskovski of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; five sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Korcheck and Mrs. Ann Poprovsky, both of Lyndora, Mrs. Lloyd (Margaret) Rettig of Butler, Mrs. George (Dorothy) Stefanko of Lyndora and Mrs. Michael (Charlotte) Aquilino of Frederick, Md. He also is survived by three grandsons, Shawn, Scott and Derek Roskovski, all of Butler; four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Canan, Jacob and Sophia Roskovski.

Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

<B>ROSKOVSKI</B> - Friend of Michael Roskovski, who died Sunday, May 15, 2005, will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. George Palick, pastor of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church and the Rev. Richard Rowe, pastor of Petrolia Presbyterian Church, officiating.
