Onufer

Michael "Dutch" Onufer, 76, of Lyndora died Friday.

He was born Nov. 19, 1932, in Lyndora, a son of the late Thomas and Rosalia Nezolek Onufer.

Dutch was a retired steelworker at Armco Butler Works. He worked in the hot mill at Armco and retired after 42 years.

Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 249 in Butler and the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora.

He greatly enjoyed stamp and coin collecting. He also enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener and was formerly a hunter and fisherman.

He was a Ukrainian Catholic.

He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Rosalia and Michael Zahniser of Transfer, and Diana and John Novak of Slippery Rock; a son, Daniel Onufer of Butler; two sisters, Mrs. Olga Horvat of Oakmont and Mrs. Mary Petronchek of Ford City; a brother and his wife, Anthony and Dorothy Onufer of Connoquenessing; four grandchildren, Jessica and Michael Onufer, and Angela and Andrew Novak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

<B>ONUFER — </B>Friends of Michael "Dutch" Onufer, who died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME,</B> 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas Lorance, pastor of St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery.
