Elliott

Sophia G. Elliott, 89, formerly of Second Street and the Butler Arbor Apartments in Butler, entered into eternal rest with Jesus from the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday evening.

She was born in Argentine, Washington Township, Feb. 6, 1921, one of nine children born to Theodore and Nancy Lastufka Gornick.

She was a retired expediter at Magnetics in East Butler. She retired March 1, 1985, after 25 years, 2 months and 2 days. Before Magnetics, Sophia had been a bookkeeper for Secher's Food Products in Butler.

Mrs. Elliott was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Butler and was a former member of the Helping Hands group at the church. She also was a former member of the Butler Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and AARP, and she was a life member of the Tanglewood Center.

She enjoyed flower gardening, traveling and bus tour groups and was an amateur photographer. Sophia also was the family member who would lovingly care for members of her family when someone was needed.

She was the widow of Donald G. Elliott. They were married Aug. 24, 1942, and he passed Nov. 30, 1983. She also was preceded in death by her four brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Daun Carol Fizer and her husband, Michael, of Lyndora and Linda A Elliott Leitsch and her husband, Robert, of Mars; five grandchildren, Ronald (Rene) Fizer, James Fizer, Scott (Becky) Fizer, John Elliott and Stacy Elliott; two great-grandchildren, Chelsea Frazier and 9-month-old Kevin Fizer, who she especially loved; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

<B>ELLIOTT</B> — Friends of Sophia G. Elliott, who died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate.
