Smietana

Eva Smietana, 83, of Lyndora died peacefully Saturday morning from pneumonia at the VNA Hospice surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Philadelphia, Sept. 14, 1927, a daughter of Valentine and Barbara Sobierha.

Eva had worked in several retail stores, along with the Bobbie Brooks plant until its closing, and retired after working 10 years at the fitting room of Kmart.

She was a member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Lyndora. She formerly had been a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Butler and the American Legion Auxiliary of Lyndora.

Eva was known for her ability to raise African violets. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and her daily habit of peanut butter M&Ms.

She was the widow of Edward T. Smietana Sr. They were married in Franklin, Ind., Nov. 21, 1944, and moved to Butler from Philadelphia in 1947. He died 4 months ago on April 18, 2011.

Surviving are their four children, Edward T. Smietana Jr. and his wife, Ginger, of Paw Paw, Mich., Dennis (Linda) Smietana of Butler, Patricia (Robert) Steere of Butler and Christine (Robert) Craig of Lehigh Acres, Fla. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by an infant twin brother, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, two brothers, and a stepsister.

<B>SMIETANA</B> — Friends of Eva Smietana, who died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. George Palick of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church will officiate. Entombment will take place at the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.The Bereavement Group of St. Fidelis Parish will conduct a parish prayer service at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 107 Sunnyview Circle, Butler, PA 16001 or to the VNA Inpatient Hospice Facility, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
