Edward “Ed” L. Johnson

Edward “Ed” L. Johnson, 83, of Butler, passed away peacefully Jan. 10 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler with his family by his side.

Born Sept. 4, 1933, in Harwick, he was the son of the late William A. and Hanna M. Johnson. He proudly served in the U.S. Army at Kagnew Station, Asmara, Ethiopia. Ed retired from Armco to pursue his greatest joys, spending time with his family and helping others.

Ed is survived by the love of his life and his steadfast companion for 59 years, Virginia Miller Johnson; his children, Janis (Thomas) Hackett and Edward (Pamela) Johnson; four grandchildren, Nate Hackett, Haley Hackett, Turner Johnson and Aleksandra Johnson; his devoted nephew, Joe and his wife, Beth, and their children, Jessica and Michael; his sister, Ada (Gene) Myers; his brothers, Paul (Laura) Johnson and Don Johnson; and his sister-in-law, Alice (Leroy) Johnson; his lifelong friend, Floyd DiTullio; and the most generous and thoughtful neighbors, caring and supportive church family and bowling buddies of the 60-plus league at Family Bowlaway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Ed's family would like to convey their deepest gratitude to all of the staff of Butler Memorial Hospital, 3 South, most especially, Jenna, Sadie, Becky, Connie, Barry and John and to the nurses at VNA Hospice.

JOHNSON — Friends of Edward “Ed” L. Johnson, who died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler.Memorial service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Goodman, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.Military honors by the VFW Post 249, the Lyndora American Legion 778 and the Butler Legion 117 will follow the service at the church.In lieu of flowers, Ed would want any gestures of kindness instead be shown to the VNA Inpatient Hospice Center.For more information, visit www.youngfuneralhomes.com.
